2014 Happenings on Sir Winston Churchill Square

Upcoming events:

Swing 'n' Skate at City Hall

Swing ‘n’ Skate features live swing, jazz and big band music in the City Room at City Hall from 1:00 - 4:00 pm on most Sundays until February 22, 2015. Local hep-cats, the Sugar Swing Dance Club, will help put the boogie-woogie in your step along with local acts pumping out the jazzy beats. If you’d rather be outdoors, the music will be broadcast directly outside for the enjoyment of ice skaters on City Hall Plaza. Free skate rentals will be available on a first come, first serve basis.

Every Saturday until the May long weekend, the City Market Downtown is inside City Hall.

See you in the Spring! Spring 2015 programming is as follows (subject to change):

Mondays:        Zumba on the Square with funKi fit, 12-1

Tuesdays:      Word on the Square, 12-1 – writers change weekly
                        (Sep 30 - Oct 21)

Wednesdays:  Churchill Circuit with funKi fit – a full body workout utilizing the environment, 12-1

                        Lightsaber Training with Janine Waddell Hodder, kids from 7:00-7:45pm, adults from 7:00-8:30pm
(Last session on September 3)

Thursdays:      Live at Lunch featuring local musicians, 11:30-1

                          CypherWild­ with DJ Creeasian, live street art and mc battles, 6:00-9:00pm (Last Cypher on Sep. 25)

                          Breakfast Television interviews DJ Creeasian on "Diverse-City"

Fridays:           Zumba on the Square with funKi fit, 12-1

Daily/Weekend: Games (table tennis, basketball, ball hockey, giant checkers, giant chess and more) 11:30am-8pm

*If Churchill Square is busy with a special event, Happenings programs are held behind the Stanley A. Milner library in Centennial Plaza!

The Edmonton Arts Council (EAC), in partnership with the City of Edmonton, programs activity and event Happenings in Sir Winston Churchill Square for casual and day-to-day public use between major festivals and civic events.

Since August 2011, EAC Churchill Square Happenings programmer, Bob Rasko, has produced a diverse schedule of offerings open to the public including: Sunday Swing 'n Skate, Game On street hockey, Rush Hour Wednesdays, Live at Lunch, and Zumba on the Square. 

Getting there: Sir Winston Churchill Square is easily accessible by bus and LRT.  Visit www.takeETS.com for route and schedule information.
