Northern Light Theatre closes out its successful 2023 – 2024 Season with a World Première play by Artistic Director Trevor Schmidt, a multidisciplinary murder mystery-thriller. Trevor currently has another World Première play, Robot Girls, running at Edmonton’s Shadow Theatre.

Candy & the Beast is a mystery-thriller set in the town of Black Falls where everyone has awakened to the realization that they have a serial killer problem. A series of residents have gone missing — only to turn up dead. Meanwhile, a pack of wild wolves roam the woods that surround the town, seducing local domesticated dogs to their doom. Candy Reese and her little brother Kenny set out from the trailer court to track down the killer and bring them to justice.

This new play completes the trilogy of plays from this season essentially under the same moon, ” says NLT Artistic Director Trevor Schmidt. The journey for both Candy and her brother Kenny will take them into the darkest edges of their hometown and community while exploring the superstitions of what a full moon, and the rituals surrounding it, does to us all.”

Candy & the Beast previews on Thursday April 4, opens on Friday, April 5, and runs until Saturday April 24 at Studio Theatre in the ATB Arts Barns. Tickets are on sale now and start at $37 with many pricing options including Free Student Preview, 2 for 1 Tuesdays, Wet Wednesday $20 tickets including a drink, and Pay What You Can performances.

The creative team includes Director, Set, and Costume Designer Trevor Schmidt, Sound Designer Dave Clarke, Lighting Designer Alison Yanota, Production Manager Rae McCallum, Stage Manager Yvette Martens.
