About
Join the Edmonton Chamber Music Society for their presentation of Olga Arribas Quintana, violin and Miroslav Sekera, piano on Tuesday, October 22 at 7:30 PM at Muttart Hall, MacEwan University — Alberta College Campus (10050 MacDonald Dr NW).
Olga Arribas Quintana, hailing from a family of Czech violinists, is one of the most interesting young violinists of her generation. She has won first prizes at the Rodolfo Lipizer Award and the Prague Spring, and secured second prize at the Shanghai Isaac Stern International Violin Competition in China in 2018, where she also received the award for the best interpretation of a contemporary Chinese concerto. She and Sekera perform together often and have released her debut CD in 2022.
Miroslav Sekera is a distinguished Czech pianist who has garnered numerous accolades, including first prizes at the Chopin Competition in Mariánské Lázné, the Johannes Brahms International Competition in Pörtschach, Austria, and from the Prague Academy of Music. In 2006, he released a solo CD with Multisonic, and has also recorded three CDs of contemporary Boston composer Joseph Summer.
The Edmonton Chamber Music Society has been bringing internationally renowned chamber musicians to Edmonton for over 65 years. Its concert seasons offer a range of programming from early music to contemporary works performed by instrumental and vocal soloists, small chamber orchestras, vocal ensembles and traditional string quartets.
Originally founded by faculty members of the University of Alberta’s Department of Music, the Society continues its dedication to musical education through its outreach programs and an inexpensive ticket price for any student. To further encourage music students to attend, discounted tickets are offered to music teachers when they bring their students to a concert.
