The Don Berner Big Band is the city of Edmonton’s flagship large jazz ensemble. An Edmonton jazz favourite for over a decade, the Don Berner Big Band became the first professional large jazz ensemble in Edmonton to have a fully programmed concert season in 2021. Featuring Edmonton’s best jazz musicians, the Don Berner Big Band presents an eclectic season drawing from classic big band and swing repertoire, collaborations with contemporary and pop artists, adaptations of works from other mediums, and more with a variety of special illustrious guests.
Edmonton’s preeminent Big Band is thrilled to feature the great Melissa Aldana as our special guest for an absolutely incredible evening of world class music! Grammy nominee, Blue Note records recording artist, and winner of the 2013 Thelonious Monk competition, Melissa is one of the finest saxophone players in the world today the DBBB is VERY excited to have this opportunity to collaborate with her! This project is supported by the Edmonton Arts council, the City of Edmonton, and the Edmonton Downtown Business Association.
