Winter City Weekends - Ice Grooves & Swing ​‘n Skate

Join the Edmonton Arts Council for Winter City Weekends at City Hall Plaza!

* Please note that skate rentals will be available on a first come, first served basis, and that all programming is dependent on weather and ice conditions (not available in slushy conditions or when the temperature is below ‑20, with windchill). Individuals under 18 years old are required to wear a helmet while ice skating

Ice Grooves

Bring your cool moves to City Hall Plaza Ice Grooves! Skate and dance along to live DJs every Friday and Saturday night from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.

Swing​‘n Skate

Swing​‘n Skate will be back at City Hall on Sundays from 1:00 – 4:00 pm throughout January and February. Show off your best moves to some swing, big band, soca, salsa and more inside Edmonton City Hall. If you’d rather be outdoors, the music will be broadcast directly outside for ice skaters at City Hall Plaza.

• Sunday, January 19, 1:00 — 4:00 pm: Dave Babcock and his Jump Orchestra, featuring Mallory Chipman, with swing dance instruction from Michael Casajus
• Sunday, January 26, 1:00 — 4:00 pm: The Mexican Society of Edmonton presents Manny V. y su Esquina Latina with Alicia Ortega (Mexican folkloric dance)
• Sunday, February 2, 1:00 — 4:00 pm: The Diamonds Band with country swing dance instruction
• Sunday, February 9, 1:00 ‑4:00 pm: The DSO-Dead String Orchestra (dance instruction TBA)
• Sunday, February 16, 1:00 — 4:00 pm: Tamarack Cunningham with dance instruction from Krista Leddy
• Sunday, February 23, 1:00 — 4:00 pm: Capital City Big Band (dance instruction TBA)

Want to gain some confidence on the ice? Join the Edmonton Arts Council for free drop-in learn skating lessons. 

• Saturdays, 12:30 — 1:30 pm
• Sundays, 12:30 — 1:30 pm

Free Skate Rentals

(Starting December 15, 2024)

Ready to get on the ice? The Edmonton Arts Council will be at the City Hall Plaza offering free skate rentals all week long:

• Monday — Friday, rentals from 5:00 — 9:00 PM
• Saturday, rentals from 12:00 — 9:00 PM
• Sunday, rentals from 12:00 — 5:00 PM
