Economic Impact of the Arts in Edmonton
July 11, 2025
Message from the Executive Director
I first identified the need for an up-to-date economic impact study when I joined the EAC in November, and since then, many of you have asked for this information to help you advocate for investment in our local arts sector. As I shared last month as we gathered at ArtsHub Ortona, and in our update to the City of Edmonton, the EAC recently completed this study. We are pleased to share the report with you today, and from now on, we plan to conduct a new iteration every four years (using supplemental data in between).
Using data from 183 organizations funded by the EAC, this study shows that arts and festival organizations funded by the EAC generate over $171 million dollars of economic activity annually in Edmonton. Not only that, but these arts organizations also create over 1,400 local jobs each year and mobilize thousands of volunteers in local communities.
Beyond positive economic impacts, high levels of public engagement, volunteerism, and community participation in the arts underscore the sector’s essential role in fostering belonging, inclusion, and well-being. As I suspect most of you already know, the report demonstrates that we have a lot to be proud of concerning the arts’ integral role in making Edmonton a vibrant and livable city.
So, let’s celebrate our incredible arts scene and spark conversation about its important economic and social impact! I encourage everyone who loves the arts in Edmonton — whether you’re an artist, arts worker or supporter (maybe all three) to read the full report and download the infographic highlighting the impact of the arts in Edmonton.
I look forward to our ongoing conversations about the crucial role that the arts and culture play in building Edmonton’s economy.
Thank you for the work that you do,
Renée Williams, EAC Executive Director
