EAC Civic Discussion: Why the arts matter now

@ ArtsHub Ortona // 5:30 pm

On May 5, join the Edmonton Arts Council (EAC) and Mayor Andrew Knack for a dialogue on why the arts matter now, more than ever.

According to EAC research, 85% of Edmontonians agree that arts and cultural experiences help bring people from diverse backgrounds together as a community. The arts also generate over $171 million dollars of economic activity annually in Edmonton. In a world that is increasingly in tumult, and as many organizations abandon their commitments to equity, diversity, and inclusion, it is crucial to reaffirm the role of the arts and culture as vital public goods.

This opportunity for dialogue will bring community members together for a thoughtful conversation about the value of creativity in shaping our resilient city, fostering belonging, and strengthening community safety. Together, participants will explore how the arts respond to uncertainty, reflect diverse experiences, and help imagine a vibrant future for all Edmontonians.

This important discussion will be followed by an opportunity to mingle over light refreshments.

Our conversation will be guided by Edmonton City Council’s Strategic Priorities & Guiding Principles. If you would like to contribute a question that aligns with these priorities and principles, please submit it for consideration here

UPDATE: We’ve reached capacity, and RSVPs are now closed.
