Join us for an evening of art, storytelling, and community to celebrate the final showcase of Arsene Arcand, the City of Edmonton’s outgoing Indigenous Artist-in-Residence.

Presented in partnership with the Edmonton Arts Council, this event highlights the vital cultural contributions of Arcand’s year-long residency, connecting the community through immersive programming and ancestral traditions that reflect contemporary and traditional Indigenous art forms.

About the Exhibition: Miyo Wâhkôhtowin (Good Relations)

Celebrate the culmination of nêhiyaw (Cree) artist Arsene Arcand’s residency at the final showcase and opening reception of his new exhibition,Miyo Wâhkôhtowin.

Arcand, a stone carver from Alexander First Nation (Treaty 6 Territory), will share a stunning new body of work inspired by the traditional teachings of the moss bag — symbolizing protection, warmth, and human potential.

Program Highlights

  • Reception & Cuisine (5:00 PM): Doors open with an opening reception featuring contemporary Indigenous cuisine prepared by award-winning Chef Holly Holt.
  • Opening Protocol & Announcements: The formal agenda includes a sacred opening prayer by Elder Fred Campion, remarks from City of Edmonton and Edmonton Arts Council representatives, and the exciting announcement of the next incoming Indigenous Artist in Residence.
  • Live Performance: Enjoy a live performance by Cree singer-songwriter and language advocate Tammy Rae.
  • Artist Panel Discussion: Join a compelling conversation featuring Arsene Arcand and contemporary Coast Salish artist James Harry as they discuss Indigenous art, public space, and cultural policy.
