Fibreglass
Edmonton

Misi-mîkisak is a 14′ tall beaded earring constructed of colourfully painted fibreglass. This contemporary interpretation pays homage to Indigenous people who have had a long history with beads and beadwork.

Statement from the artist:

Misi-mîkisak represents an Indigenous future. Nicapanpanak kayas ohci ikî mikisikahchikewak. This beaded earring is a celebration of contemporary beadwork and Indigenous fashion. I honour my ancestors and their beautiful beadwork by enlarging these beads, transforming them into another realm. The colors of the rainbow represented in this earring are a tribute to Two-Spirit people and Indigiqueer identities.

I hope you feel happiness and love when you see Misi-mîkisak shining in the sun. Surrounded by the water, sky, trees, grass and flowers.

Thankful for the beauty that surrounds us.
