These colourful and engaging art panels reflect the vibrant First Nations heritage in Edmonton’s south side. The Edmonton Arts Council worked with communities along the South LRT line and commissioned original art from three young Indigenous artists who have strong connections to Edmonton.

Aaron Paquette, Jason Carter, Chloe Mustooch

Aaron Paquette is a First Nations Métis artist, author and speaker known for his bright colours, strong lines and for sharing new ways of looking at age-old experiences and beliefs. Based in Edmonton, Alberta, Aaron has been creating art for the past 20 years. He apprenticed and has become both a Cathedral Stained Glass artist and a Goldsmith, influences of which can be seen in the line and structure of his paintings – displayed in various galleries throughout the country. He has worked with the Edmonton Catholic and Public School boards on many projects ranging from elementary school visits that tie art into curricular learning to mural painting. His first YA novel, “Lightfinder”, releasing May 14, 2014 through Kegedonce Press.

Jason Carter is one of Canada’s most exciting and accomplished contemporary Aboriginal visual artists, celebrated for both his paintings and his carvings. He had a solo show at Alberta House on Alberta Day at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. His work has been acquired into dozens of private collections (The Government of Alberta, The City Of Edmonton, AFA, Rogers Media, Syncrude, The Shaw Art Collection, The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo to name a few) as well, he has had several exciting public shows, including the Royal Alberta Museum, Art Gallery of Alberta, The Art Gallery of Calgary and the Indian and Northern Affairs Public Art Display in Ottawa, Ontario.

Chloe Bluebird Mustooch ‘Siktahtoh’ was born in Santa Fe New Mexico. She is a tribal member of the Alexis Nakoda Sioux Nation of Alberta, Canada. Her artistic nature was apparent early in her formative years, as she won an art scholarship to the famed Georgia O’Keefe Ranch in Taos, New Mexico while in the sixth grade. Her artistry encompasses various genres- from traditional beadwork, quillwork, weaving, drawing, painting and sculpture in several media. Her altruistic endeavors include donating a painting for Edmonton HomeFest, Addressing Aboriginal homelessness issues in Edmonton. She has been involved in several indigenous organizations including being a mentor for Mother Earth Childrens Charter School, the Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society and the Yellowhead Tribal Council.
