Emergency Support

Deadline: ongoing as needed

Emergency Support is a one-time grant to an organization to specifically support their urgent and timely response to an emergency.

Program overview

Emergency situations can arise that threaten the stability of organizations in the Edmonton arts ecology. By policy, the EAC holds an Emergency Reserve Fund, intended to respond to emergencies.

For these purposes, an Emergency is defined as a critical situation, resulting from a specific and unforeseeable event that, if not dealt with in an urgent and timely manner, will jeopardize the stability and capacity of an organization in the Edmonton arts ecology.

Eligibility

ORGANIZATIONS MUST

  • Be a registered non-profit organization that works to the benefit the Edmonton arts ecology.

WHAT TO CONSIDER WHEN APPLYING

  • Emergency Support applications usually begin with a verbal or email inquiry, but must be formally completed and submitted via the EAC’s usual processes, which will be opened to specific Emergency Support applicants at the discretion of the EAC’s Chief Executive Officer.
  • Emergency Support grants are financially limited by EAC Board policy.

WHAT IS NOT SUPPORTED

Emergency support is not intended to respond to timing of cash flow, changes in personnel, legal obligations, usual maintenance, or other normal operational inconveniences.

Application process

Applicants are usually organizations that already have an Organizational Profile in SmartSimple. Ensure you have updated all required fields in your profile.

Assessment & reporting

ASSESSMENT PROCESS

Emergency Support is at the sole discretion of the EAC’s Chief Executive Officer, who will assess requests in light of:

  • The nature of the emergency and the impact it may have on the organization and/or the broader arts ecology.
  • Any measures that were taken in advance to mitigate risks related to the emergency.
  • The relationship of the organization with the EAC and/or the arts ecology.
  • Any available information about the organization, including (but not limited to) past EAC assessments and funding decisions.
  • Any other resources available to the organization to address the emergency.
  • Any relevant EAC Policies.

REPORTING REQUIREMENTS

Organizations that receive Emergency Support will be required to submit a report within three months.

The outcomes of any Emergency Support request will be considered as part of future assessments by the EAC for any program or support requested by the organization.
