ART BUILDS COMMUNITY – THE EXHIBITION

In April 2025, Collins Studio Gallery, with the support of Arts on the Ave, launched an art-based skills-building program aimed at supporting individuals in the Alberta Avenue District who face mental health and addiction challenges. The program was designed to help participants build confidence, develop new skills, and become more engaged members of their community.

Residents from Elizabeth House and Bears Den participated in the project. This exhibition celebrates their creativity, supports them in finding purpose and meaning, and aims to reduce stigma and discrimination and ideally, replace it with inspiration and new opportunities. 

Elizabeth House, located in the Alberta Avenue District of Edmonton, is a permanent supportive housing facility operated by e4c in partnership with Alberta Health Services. It offers secure housing and personalized care plans for individuals living with mental illness and addictions. With space for 20 residents, Elizabeth House is designed to be a safe, welcoming, and home-like environment that promotes stability and independence.
