Book Launch: Jay Martin

Former Edmonton resident Jay Martin joins us for the evening from Perth, Western Australia, to showcase her new book, BOOM TOWN SNAP, a fast-paced and engrossing story of greed, power and illusion. Boom Town Snap is set between Alberta’s icy prairies and the baked-red earth of Australia’s north-west corner – Australia’s iron, oil and gas powerhouse, a world that is as far geographically from Edmonton as it is socially and culturally close. While a novel, it draws inspiration from Jay’s own experiences living and working in both Australia and Alberta on government and mining contracts. 

The session promises a rich discussion of place-based storytelling as Jay talks with Alberta-based writer Katie Bickell about how their boom town worlds offer the opportunity to ignite conflict – and connection – on the page.
