Charlie Parker was both the seminal figure of the alto saxophone and the co-creator of the entire bebop movement in jazz in the 20^th century. Now, hear his complex rhythms, advanced harmonic conceptions, and virtuosic lyricism revisited, as the DBBB performs the music of Charlie Parker! From incredible arrangements of high tempo, blistering, bebop to the lush ballads of ​“Charlie Parker with strings”, this show has something for every music lover. This project is supported by the Edmonton Arts council, the City of Edmonton, the Edmonton Downtown Business Association and the Alberta Government through the Alberta Foundation for the Arts.

The Don Berner Big Band is the city of Edmonton’s flagship large jazz ensemble. An Edmonton jazz favourite for over a decade, the Don Berner Big Band became the first professional large jazz ensemble in Edmonton to have a fully programmed concert season in 2021. Featuring Edmonton’s best jazz musicians, the Don Berner Big Band presents an eclectic season drawing from classic big band and swing repertoire, collaborations with contemporary and pop artists, adaptations of works from other mediums, and more with a variety of special illustrious guests, all presented in the Muttart Theatre in the heart of Downtown Edmonton!
