102 Avenue Bridge

For more than a century, the original 102 Avenue Bridge connected drivers, pedestrians, and transit riders travelling to and from Edmonton’s downtown. For many, the sound of traffic flowing across the steel bridge deck was the identifying characteristic of the original bridge.

now & then links the old bridge with the new, and preserves its auditory history while commemorating connections, and links between past and present; between now & then. The physical portion of the artwork – medallions cut from the original decking – is a subtle integration of then’ into now’.

A temporary website was created to accompany the launch of the project, acting as a cyber history, offering historical documentation, soundscapes, and interviews in a vigorous and sensory manner.
