About
Vessels explores the connection between land and sky, our connections to the spirit world and the gifts passed down by our ancestors. The works are meant to be conceptual, honouring water and food, gathering, gifting and receiving, connections, and relationships we build with one another and our ancestors.
The works are based on the shards of Indigenous pottery found on the shoreline of the Red River, where the artist’s family comes from. Indigenous pottery shards uncovered by archaeologists within this region suggest Indigenous ceramics were practiced within this site for over 2000 years. While the exact histories and makers of these ancient vessels may be unknown, this artwork represents the kinships and relationships built through the making and use of vessels within our communities.
